Sports Tourism International has partnered with Uganda Tourism Board to promote sports tourism in Uganda. The partnership will see the two entities organising sports Tourism around the country, starting with the Source of the Nile Corporate challenge, which is expected to kick off on the 28th-30th August in Jinja. The event is expected to attract more than  100 corporate teams.

The participants will include corporates from Uganda and the East African Community (EAC) countries, Nigeria, Egypt and Ethiopia.  Sports activities on those two days will include Birding race, a swimming gala, football and netball, among others.

Addressing a news conference at UTB’s offices in Kampala, UTB Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Asiimwe, pointed out that for many years   Uganda’s  tourism has been based on wildlife and nature resources. “We need to diversify the Tourism sector by bringing on board new Tourism products, such as Sports Tourism, which has been initiated by Sports Tourism International.  Diversifying the sector is expected to improve Government and private sector earning,” Asiimwe said

Cuthbert Baguma, the lead consultant for sports Tourism International,  believes that, if the product is well developed, it will provide opportunities to the hospitality industry, such as Hotels, whilst also promoting International relations among participating countries, as in developed countries, notably in Europe.
