According to Ultimate Concepts Limited (UCL), who own the project, the multi-million Kigali Convention centre in Rwanda’s capital is set to be opened officially in June this year.

Furthermore, the Kigali Convention Centre, which is expected to become the hub of numerous services in the East African Community, will host the 27th African Union Summit as its maiden major event.   Several other events have also been scheduled to take place at the convention centre.

Confirming these reports, the Executive Chairperson of UCL, Eng. Didier Sagashya, announced that the construction project, valued at US 300m, will be fully operational as from June this year. He added that the five-star hotel building will boast 292 rooms, several meeting rooms, an office park and a conference hall that can accommodate up to 2,500 people.

“We are working very hard, 24 hours a day to complete the project. Construction work currently stands at 70 per cent completion. Final touches are currently being added and the centre will be in operation by June 2016,” Sagashya declared.

The Convention Centre is owned by UCL, a joint venture between the Government of Rwanda through the Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) and Prime Holdings Ltd, as well as private investors, including Crystal Ventures Ltd and Rwanda Investment Group (RIG).
