One of the high points in Ethiopian’s 73-year history happened in July 1998 when the airline began flights to Washington, D.C. Today, thousands of departures and arrivals later, ET flies from three U.S. cities – Washington, D.C., Los Angeles (started 2015), and Newark (started 2016) – taking Americans to 54 cities in Africa, and to continents far beyond, utilizing ultra-modern B787 and B777 aircraft. ET plans to add its fourth U.S. gateway, Houston or Chicago, in July 2018. To commemorate the milestone a number of celebrations leading up to the mid-Summer anniversary are planned in the three existing and potential gateway cities.
