With our moves to banish plastic water bottles from all our properties, and Little Governors’ Camp becoming a 100% solar property, our efforts to lessen our environmental footprint have been recognised with Gold and Silver Eco-Ratings from Kenya Ecotourism at our Masai Mara properties.

Reverse Osmosis water filtration systems have now been installed in all our Kenyan properties, replacing plastic drinking bottles. All our guests are issued with Governors’ branded metal water bottles, and have purified drinking water available on tap in their tents.

In December we flicked the switch on the new solar system at Little Governors’ Camp, making it 100% solar. Since then, 61 tonnes of carbon have been prevented from entering the atmosphere, something to celebrate with a Gold Eco-Rating!

On the community front in the Masai Mara, construction is near complete on a brand new girls’ dormitory at Mara Rianda Primary School. Providing housing for up to 160 girls, the dormitory is newest project of the long-standing collaboration between the Mara Rianda Trust and Governors’ Camp. Our work with Mara Rianda Trust has helped achieve numerous projects benefiting the school, including the building of 4 classrooms, teachers’ accommodation, a dining hall, latrines, solar lighting, a borehole and rain catchment system with complete washing and purified drinking water facilities for the students.

Thus, we are proud to announce Little Governors’ Camp has achieved Gold Eco-Rating status, and Governors’ Camp and Il Moran Camp a prestigious Silver for their environmental and community efforts.
