Children at Thanda Safari Lodge can participate in the Bucks & Bugs Club. Kids get a detailed activity book to complete while on safari. They will go out on a Bush Bumble (a short ride on the open game drive vehicle with a guide) or a walk around the camp to identify animal tracks and spoor. Children will learn about the small insects that also play an important role in the eco-system. Older children can also join our Junior Rangers Course and spend time with one of our guides, learning the ways of the wild. They’ll learn about game tracking, game spotting, spoor identification as well as bird and plant life. At the end of their stay, they will receive a Junior Ranger Certification from Thanda.

After the evening meal (with a children’s menu available), children are invited to roast marshmallows around the bonfire under the stars, whilst listening to African tales of wildlife and Zulu culture, handed down from generation to generation. There are board games for the kids to take part in in the main lodge or in the individual rooms. Also, we have nannies available at a nominal rate.

As a privately owned, family focused safari property, Thanda Safari caters to children in a very comprehensive way. For families of all sizes with children of all ages to large multi-generational getaways, we have something special for every guest! At Thanda Safari, children are considered 16 years and younger. Children two years and younger travel for free and children older than this are a 50% of the adult rate. Villa iZulu is our family friendly, exclusive-use, five-bedroom villa that is completely fenced and safe for kids of all ages to be running around and playing in the yard. It sports a fabulous swimming pool that is a great attraction for children, as well as games, a media room, and more.
