In recent months, there have been a number of negative travel advisories in place covering Mozambique’s northernmost region. These have a direct bearing on &Beyond Vamizi Island, which is situated off the coast of this area. &Beyond has been monitoring the situation carefully.

Operations to be suspended
Travel to this troubled area has decreased significantly, and our forward bookings for &Beyond’s Vamizi Island’s private villas have dropped to a point of commercial non-viability. As a result, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend our operations on the island as of 01 September 2019 until further notice.

Special Notes:

  • Our teams will be in contact to discuss impacted bookings and proposed alternatives.
  • Our &Beyond Benguerra Island lodge, situated about 2 025 km (1 258 mi.) to the south close to Vilanculos, is not affected and is operating as normal.

Long-term commitment
We remain fully committed to our long-term plans for &Beyond Vamizi Island. These include the rebuilding of Vamizi Island Lodge as an additional offering to the private villas. We will review our position on a quarterly basis.

Permanent conservation team
We will maintain our full marine conservation footprint on Vamizi Island, a recognised global ‘Hope Spot’ for marine conservation. A team will be left in place on a permanent basis to continue the invaluable research work and other vital functions relating to our Oceans Without Borders’ conservation initiatives.
