Terminal III at Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) has been officially opened by Tanzania’s President John Magufuli.

The new terminal, which cost TZS705bn (€275m), will handle international flights and enable the airport to increase capacity.

The opening of the new terminal comes at a time when Tanzania has embarked on a drive to grow tourism numbers. Air Tanzania now operates long-haul flights to key markets including Asia, and is also reportedly eyeing London, Bangkok and Guangzhou.

DAR is the largest of Tanzania’s three international airports. The others are Kilimanjaro International Airport in the north and Zanzibar International Airport.
