Effective today, The Department of Home Affairs in the Republic of South Africa has announced an exemption of the requirement to carry supporting documents for children from visa-exempt countries. 
 
FOREIGN CHILDREN FROM VISA EXEMPT COUNTRIES ENTERING OR DEPARTING THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
In terms of section 31(2)(c) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No 13 of 2002), The Minister of Home Affairs has granted a waiver to foreign children from visa exempt countries entering or departing the Republic of South Africa from complying with the provisions of regulation 6(12B)(c) of the Immigration Regulations, 2014 whilst the Department is in the process of finalizing the amendments to the Immigration Regulations in this regard.

A person who is traveling with a child who is not his or her biological child and one parent traveling with a child are no longer required to produce a Parental Consent Letter, birth certificate or other supporting documents relating to proof of parentage at the port of entry.

This waiver is granted on condition that all other requirements for entry and departure from the Republic of South Africa shall be complied with.
