December 10th marked the 3rd anniversary of the opening of the Claire Kartagener Maternity Ward (CKMW) in the village of Mugarameno, Zambia. Located about 45 minutes upriver from Lower Zambezi National Park CKMW, the first project of the KAI Foundation, has seen just shy of 200 healthy children born to date!

The second phase of the project is constructing a home for a full time doctor to be based in the village. The Zambian government will be covering the doctors salary. The accommodation will also include two dormitory-style rooms to house international guests visiting the village to volunteer at the facility. This building is almost complete and the ribbon cutting ceremony will be held in March.
We anticipate the number of births each year increasing significantly with a doctor permanently based in Mugarameno to assist nurse Rosemary.
