Countries around the world are adopting and integrating the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s new ‘Stay home today so you can travel tomorrow campaign to curb the spread of COVID-19 while still stimulating travel appetites for the future.

UNWTO is promoting the tagline on digital media through the hashtag #TravelTomorrow. It encourages travellers to adhere to health guidelines and national quarantines now so that they are able to travel again in the near future.

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife and the Chairperson of the UNWTO’s Executive Council, Najib Balala, announced the Kenya Tourism Board’s participation in the campaign. The KTB is sharing popular nature scenes and tourism offerings in the country in a series of tweets and has created a video promoting the campaign.

South African Tourism has launched a similar campaign during the nationwide 21-day lockdown, calling on all South African citizens not to travel now so that they can all travel later. The video shows scenes of the country’s tourist attractions with no one in sight.

“Our creative teams created these clips semi-remotely, something that we have never done before, proving in true South African style that nothing is impossible as long as we work together,” said General Manager of Global PR, Communications and Stakeholder Relations at South African Tourism, Altaaf Kazi.
