Thrill seeking guests at the Kruger Shalati Train on the Bridge hotel in South Africa will be pleased to hear they’ll be able to swim in a pool above a river filled with crocodiles

The luxury hotel is perched on the 300-metre-long Selati bridge high above the Sabie river in South Africa’s Kruger National Park and is located within a renovated steam train.

The swimming pool adds to the hotel’s uniqueness – it sits directly above the Sabie river with crocodiles, hippos and elephants below!

The hotel pays homage to the first tourists who explored Kruger in the early 1920s. The train that brought them to the area would park overnight exactly where the hotel is currently positioned.

There are 31 rooms, made up of 24 carriage rooms and seven luxury Bridge House rooms, to choose from offering large floor-to-ceiling windows for you to check out the local wildlife and maybe even get a peak at the crocodiles below. The Bridge House rooms are set to open in 2022.

In fact all of the hotel’s rooms offer stunning views along with king-sized beds, an ensuite bathroom, and a small living lounge area. There will even be a butler service for those who want an extra dose of luxury.

If you’re feeling active, there are two daily excursions by truck from the hotel and there certainly is a lot too see. Kruger National Park became South Africa’s first national park in 1926 and is one of the largest in the world, at just over 7.5 sqkm.

When venturing through the park in the safety of a safari truck, you may be lucky enough to see one if not all of the “big five” – lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalo. The park is also home to 147 mammal species, more than any other African game reserve.

The Kruger Shalati Train on the Bridge hotel is set to open to guests on from the 14th December 2020.

Rates will start from 7950 ZAR (£379) a night.
