Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta, has rejected claims by local airlines that domestic flights for international tourists will be allowed.

He reiterated in a statement: “All domestic passenger flights into and out of the zoned area of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru shall cease to operate until further notice. This includes international tourists on planned itineraries with tour operators and travel agents.”

Following a rise in COVID-19 infection rates, Kenyatta reimposed strict lockdown restrictions on the movement of people, including tourists. He said there would be no movement, by road, rail or air, into and out of the disease-infected areas (the five counties identified above), which would be treated as one zone.

However, Nairobi-based Safarilink Aviation has obtained a dispensation to operate evacuation/charter flights for international tourists up to and including April 1.
