The Limpopo Department of Economic Development and Tourism is revisiting earlier plans to plans to open a new gate and a tourism activity hub in the Kruger National Park.

The new entrance, Shangoni, will be situated between the towns Giyani and Malamulele.

Limpopo Minister of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Thabo Mokone, said the budget for a new gate, activity hub and access roads had been approved by the provincial government. The project was put on hold due to community disagreements about the location of the gate.

Mokone said, as involving locals in tourism and thus facilitating transformation were important, the province would start engagements with the two municipalities to resolve the disputes.

The province hopes to complete construction by the end of next year.
