Recently, Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) announced a new regulation which, experts say, will confine tourists within the national parks. If enforced, the regulation will compel tourists who wish to visit communities or stay outside the parks after game driving, to pay multiple entry fees.
This means that, having previously paid a single fee for a multiple entry permit when visiting Tanzania’s National Parks, guests will now be required to pay Park fees every time they re-enter the National Parks.
Currently, tourists pay a single fee in a particular park, which is issued with a permit that can be used for multiple entries within 24 hours. The 24-hour permit has been serving an incentive for tourists to visit or stay at the community-based wildlife management areas (WMAs) where, in turn, they transfer an estimated $24 million per year.
The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators, aka TATO, and the Tourism Confederation of Tanzania have signaled they will continue to work towards having this added fee rescinded while hoping that ministerial intervention might prevail on TANAPA’s management.
