Accra will play host to a historic gathering of tourism operators for the debut travel expo, “Accra Weizo”, scheduled for July 3. Taking place at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, the one-day travel event will be a combination of exhibition and talks on various tourism-related topics by experienced speakers and prominent travel operators from Africa and across the world . With the theme “Seamless Travel in West Africa”, Weizo is aimed at the founding vision of ECOWAS to create a region of one people integrating and growing together. Mr. Ikechi Uko, the organizer, pointed out that it coincides with ECOWAS’s celebrating 40 years of existence. It will also provide a first-hand glimpse of Carnival Calabar, the biggest street party in Africa and the best-known tourism event in West Africa. Recently, South African Airways strengthened its position in West Africa with the up-coming introduction of flights to Accra, Ghana, besides which, it entered into a bi-lateral code-share agreement with Africa World Airlines, offering travellers from Washington and Johannesburg seamless connectivity via Accra to other destinations in Ghana, such as Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale.
