In Rwanda, it is that time of year again when the newborn baby mountain gorillas are named. This annual ceremony is called Kwita Izina and is an extremely popular attraction for guests. The ceremony derives its name from the ancestral Rwandan baby-naming ceremony observed after the birth of a child. The 11th Kwita Izina will be a week-long ceremony, entailing activities such as:
- a conversation on conservation forum,
- photo exhibition,
- familiarisation trip and regional tourism to business forum,
- launch of a community project (Public Library) ,
- community Igitaramo (community party) and
- the actual naming ceremony, held on 5th September at the Kinigi Park Headquarters. Read More
