After a complete rebuild, the Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is re-opening its doors in the Okavango Delta on November 1. When re-opened, this “green” safari lodge will become Belmond’s flagship safari lodge. Each of the lodge’s 12 spacious Deluxe Tented Rooms will have its own plunge pool and large outdoor deck, overlooking the delta. The new design, featuring day beds, as well as a mini-bar in each room in the style of an old-fashioned toolbox, evokes the spirit of early explorers. An over-sized bed, which is the centerpiece of each room, offers views onto the delta. The public areas of the lodge, which have also been totally renovated, now include a more spacious reception area, a new restaurant, offering inside and outside dining and a new lounge area, with a bar and library. Outdoor areas include a new campfire area, set on its own dedicated island, connected to the main lodge by a walkway, around which guests can gather at night to share stories.
This new lodge will offer travellers a water-focused safari experience, with activities such as motor-boat safaris, barge cruises and mekoro safaris (a local canoe). Walking safaris and air safaris in a private helicopter will also be on offer. Sean Clark, director of sales, marketing and touring at Belmond Safaris, said: “The relaunch of Belmond Eagle Island Lodge will provide a truly authentic and experiential water safari. This is complemented by our two other safari lodges, which are exceptionally strong wildlife-viewing lodges.” Prices for a Deluxe Tented Room at the Belmond Eagle Island Lodge start at $ 1,560 per night. Accommodation is fully inclusive, covering all meals, safari activities and alcohol. From Nov. 1 until Dec. 23, Belmond is offering four nights for the price of three at any combination of Belmond safari lodges in Botswana as well as a complimentary 35-minute helicopter safari when staying at the Belmond Eagle Island Lodge.
