A remote African island is home to an extraordinary artists retreat. Lamu Town is a medieval labyrinth so perfectly intact it was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.
Created by Nicholas Logsdail, a highly influential art dealer and the owner of Lisson Gallery, the Factory has been transformed over the past decade into a refuge where international artists can be inspired and create. For 30 years an abandoned ruin, the structure has been renovated using the distinctive building materials of Lamu but with the clean, spare design that would delight many of the minimalist artists Logsdail has represented since the 1970s.
