Given that Mpumalanga has been awarded the opportunity to host World Tourism Day on 27 September 2017, the province’s government has declared 2017 the ‘year of tourism’.
“Tourism carries significant weight in South Africa’s and Mpumalanga’s economy, and is one of the leading elements of international trade,” says Mpumalanga’s MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Eric Kholwane. That’s why the department will be focussing on tourism infrastructure and tourist attractions in particular, as well as aggressive marketing of the province in 2017.
