Africa’s tallest indigenous tree has been discovered in a remote valley, at the foot of the highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
Last year, researchers exploring a remote valley on the mountain (two hours’ walk from Mrusunga Forest in Kidia ward, Moshi rural district), discovered the towering tree, which reaches 81.5 metres into the sky and sets a new record for the tallest tree on the entire Continent of Africa.
Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA), one of the 16 national parks in the country, which fall under the Tanzania National Parka (TANAPA), is exploring strategies to maximise the tourist potential of the tall tree.
