Kenya Tourism Board is increasing its efforts to promote travel to the country by appointing CornerSun Destination Marketing to support ongoing marketing efforts in North America. The move comes just a week after Kenya Airways began the first direct flights from New York’s JFK to Nairobi.

CornerSun will begin its promotional campaign with a multi-city roadshow taking place in Boston (Dec. 3), Washington, D.C. (Dec. 5) and New York City (Dec. 6) bringing 14 suppliers from Kenya to meet with travel advisors and tour operators in the U.S.. In 2019, the marketing firm will manage a comprehensive co-op marketing campaign, social media campaigns and sales calls in key markets.

The United States has become Kenya’s number one source market for overseas visitors, outpacing Britain, and the new non-stop air service finally provides East Africa’s first direct link between New York and Nairobi. Kenya Airways has plans to start service from Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.

“The United States has never been more important to Kenya thanks to record tourist arrivals and new nonstop flights between New York-JFK and Nairobi on Kenyan Airways,” said Betty Ichan, regional marketing manager-U.S. and Canada for Kenya Tourism Board. “We are excited to engage CornerSun as our representative in-market and look forward to working together to bring increased awareness and positivity to Kenya in 2019.”

Renowned for its wildlife and multi-faceted cultural offerings, Kenya is East Africa’s economic powerhouse and one of the most visited African destinations from the U.S., with 114,507 Americans arriving in 2017. The vision of the Kenya Tourism Board is to be the preferred long haul destination in Africa for high yield tourists, offering a diversity of authentic experiences in a preserved environment.

“Kenya’s life-changing safari experiences, white sandy beaches, intimate animal encounters, heart thumping cities and 64 national parks and reserves make it one of the most exciting and sought after destinations on the planet,” said David DiGregorio,  CornerSun managing director. “We are thrilled and honored to represent a country that so well embodies everything Americans are looking for in a travel destination.”
