Situated right by the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, a brand new eco safari lodge has recently opened.
Known as the Rafiki Safari Camp, the luxury tented safari units include private bathrooms with showers, and even a private verandah offering guests panoramic views over the reserve and distant mountains. Each unit includes electric fans and cotton percale fabric linen & towels. The tents are fitted with mosquito-proof windows, and canopy mosquito nets to ensure a safe and worry free stay. Three individual safari units have been built so far, accommodating up to eight guests.
Guests have access to the Boma for self-catered dining, with evening sundowners served by the fire and complimentary tea and coffee in the afternoons. Although Rafiki is primarily a self catering accommodation, there is a resident cook and catering can be offered to guests should they wish.
A camping ground has also been developed for those wishing to camp, with full facilities including its own braai/barbecue area, and an ablution block with hot and cold water as well as dishwashing facilities only a short distance away. Power points are also available for recharging devices and, if necessary, powering fridges/freezers. A swimming pool has also been recently built for guests to cool off in during the warmer months.
Rafiki Safari Camp is a totally self sustainable eco lodge, running off solar power, solar geyser and solar boreholes.
Based right by the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, guests have fantastic access to discover the untouched wilderness. Day trips allow you to see buffalo, and crocodile residing by the Bua River. Impala, kudu and the elegant sable also roam the lands, with elephants becoming a more and more popular sight since the historic translocation of 500 elephants by African Parks restocked the reserve.
Many other activities are available in the area too including cultural visits, horse riding, and pottery making. It is also possible to visit Lake Malawi whilst staying at Rafiki Safari Camp.
Rates for the safari units is at $60 USD per person per night, with camping at $10 USD per person per night.
