The twice weekly flights between Cape Town and Mauritius signify the value and strength of the connection between the two destinations and will contribute to the growth and recovery of the tourism sector.
So said City of Cape Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, as he welcomed the Air Mauritius flight that will depart the Mother City for Mauritius tonight (November 16).
“My mission is to reach travellers and investors from all across the continent. Cape Town and Mauritius are both heavily dependent on tourism for economic growth and jobs,” said Vos.
The five-hour direct flights depart from Cape Town International Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays at 22h05 and arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius at 05h10 the following day.
The return flights depart from Mauritius at 16h15 and arrive in Cape Town at 20h20.
The route will be operated with the A350/A330neo aircraft.
Earlier this year, Beachcomber Tours MD, Terry Munro, said he was delighted about the return of the carrier’s CPT flights, which, he said, were desperately needed. “Many clients are flying via Johannesburg to get to Mauritius, but then there are also many clients that will choose to rather have their holidays elsewhere.”
Munro was confident about the viability of CPT-MRU as a year-round route. “Many potential clients have moved to the Cape, so demand is bigger than ever.”
From an inbound demand perspective, Tourism Update heard from operators on a recent trip to Mauritius that many international tourists liked to combine their safari and Cape Town trips with a visit to Mauritius.
“It’s only a five-hour flight and it offers a wonderful island experience,” the operator said.
