On December 17, South African Tourism (SAT) celebrated the launch of Delta Air Lines new nonstop service between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT). The year-round service will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The route also compliments Delta’s existing service from ATL to O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg (JNB), which as of December 2, now makes a stop in Cape Town upon its return, completing the seasonal “triangle route.”

The ATL to CPT nonstop flight operates on Delta’s Airbus A350-900, offering a choice of four onboard experiences – Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Comfort+ and Main Cabin. Flights depart Atlanta at 8:50 pm ET, arriving in South Africa at 6:15 pm local time the next day. Return flight leaves Cape Town on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 10:50 pm and arrive in Atlanta at 8:00 am ET the next day.

“The launch of Delta’s new service between Atlanta and Cape Town underscores the desire of American travelers to experience the rich and diverse offerings that only South Africa can offer” said Jerry Mpufane, President of South African Tourism, North America. “North America is South Africa’s fastest growing overseas tourism market, and we are thrilled that Delta’s investment in the destination offers travelers more ways to travel to South Africa through one of the US’s busiest airports. Upon arrival, travelers will instantly connect with our vibrant people and unique experiences including adventure, natural beauty, culture and history, and food and wine.”

Cape Town, affectionately known as the “Mother City” is South Africa’s legislative capital and most scenic city.  From climbing picturesque Table Mountain for breathtaking views of the city, to touring Robben Island for an inspiring look at recent history, to dining on world class cuisine at the V&A Waterfront, to strolling through Bo Kaap or taking a Woodstock street art tour, Cape Town is ready to dazzle American travelers.

For travelers looking to explore beyond the Mother City to discover the urban beat of Johannesburg, the year-round sunshine along Durban’s Golden Mile, or the world-class safari and wildlife experiences of Mpumalanga or Limpopo, several local carriers offer attractive options to easily connect within the destination.
