Tanzania has launched an international tourist centre at the iconic Serengeti National Park in a bid to promote the country’s vast tourism offerings.

Opened by Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Mohamed Mchengerwa, the visitor centre provides information on the country’s 22 national parks and 29 game reserves, including maps and key attributes of the various attractions.

Government hopes to harness the popularity of the Serengeti National Park, which is the country’s most popular tourist destination, attracting over 400 000 tourists every year from around the world.

Mchengerwa urged tourism stakeholders to continue supporting government’s efforts to boost inbound tourism to the East African country.

“Every stakeholder from hotel owners to tour operators should join our efforts. We should reach the whole world in looking for more tourists,” he said.

Tanzania’s tourism industry reached almost full recovery in 2022 compared with pre-pandemic levels. The country welcomed 1.45 million tourists for the year, compared with the 1.5 million achieved in 2019.
