Wilderness has revealed plans to open a new luxury tented camp in September on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta.
Wilderness Mokete will be situated in the game-rich Mababe concession. Nine solar-powered en-suite canvas tents, each with a retractable roof, will be linked by ground-level wooden walkways leading to a tented lounge area and a swimming pool. The camp’s spacious design and minimalist aesthetic will prioritise sustainability.
Activities will include game drives, guided walks, sunken hides, and optional extras such as community visits, scenic helicopter rides, and seasonal hot-air balloon trips.
New signature camp
Wilderness has plans to replace Wilderness Mokete, which will have a limited-time offering and only be available for booking for two years, with a new signature camp, Wilderness Meraka, in 2026. Wilderness Botswana MD, Kim Nixon, confirmed the development, and said Meraka would welcome 24 guests in ten rooms, including two family units.
Cobus Calitz, Wilderness Mokete’s owner and a Wilderness company partner, said: “The landscape and wildlife experience are truly breathtaking. We are excited to put this beautiful part of the country on the map and work closely with the Mababe community. The development will benefit the residents through employment opportunities and exciting initiatives.”
