Plastic waste is one of the major environmental crises impacting the health of our planet. The tourism industry generates waste through single-use plastics. The sector also suffers from plastic waste generated by others which pollutes water courses and beaches and adds to littering in destinations. Destinations and tourism businesses can address plastic waste by disposing of it safely.

ARP is proud to be a part of Lemala’s recent title of “Best for Tackling Plastic Waste” in the Global Responsible Tourism Awards! Lemala has eliminated the use of single use plastic water bottles by supplying fresh filtered water and reusable water bottles in their camps. Besides, they collect empty single-use plastic water bottles from guest and return them to Arusha to be upcycled by Dunia Designs into school chairs and desks that are returned to local communities in an ever-virtuous circle. Each desk and chair unit reuses a whopping 40kgs of waste!

Ranger Safaris donated 5 desks in partnership with Lemala for its plastic removal endeavours.
