Arusha, December 5th, 2023 — The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) extends its deepest condolences to the families affected by the tragic mudslides in Hanang, Katesh. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their loved ones, and we stand in solidarity with the communities grappling with the aftermath of this natural catastrophe.
In response to this devastating event, TATO has made the decision to allocate over 80 million Tanzanian Shillings from meant for Gala Dinner and henceforth cancelling it and addressing funds as emergency relief. This contribution aims to provide immediate support to those in dire need and help rebuild the lives shattered by this unfortunate incident.
The emergency relief will be delivered in phases, with the first phase including essential food supplies, water, wheat and maize flour, cooking oil, salt, sugar, soap, and clothes for adults and children. On the 6th of December, a convoy of aid will be dispatched from Arusha to Katesh. This in-kind assistance seeks to address the immediate nutritional, hygiene, and clothing requirements of the affected families.
TATO acknowledges the urgency of the situation and remains committed to assisting the Hanang, Katesh communities throughout the recovery process. We express our gratitude to all those who have contributed to the Gala Dinner funds, enabling us to respond swiftly and effectively to this crisis.
