Hornbill Treks and Safaris is pleased to share that the Uganda Wildlife Authorities (UWA) have announced the exciting opening of four new gorilla families for trekking.

The new gorilla families are distributed across various sectors of Bwindi National Park.  The families are:

Buhoma sector: Binyindo and Muyambi families

Rushaga sector: Rwigi and Tindatine gorilla families

Nkuringo sector: Posho gorilla family

This expansion has increased the total number of standard gorilla trekking permits available each day to 194.

In addition to this exciting development, UWA has also introduced updated conservation tariffs, including revised primate trekking fees for foreign non-residents, effective for trekking taking place from July 2024. The primate trekking fee changes include the following updates:

  • Gorilla permit: USD$800 per person
  • Kibale chimp permit: USD$250 per person
  • Kyambura Gorge chimp permit: USD$100 per person

These changes aim to support ongoing conservation efforts and ensure the sustainability of Uganda’s rich biodiversity.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda continues to be an extraordinary adventure, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the country while contributing to the conservation of these magnificent creatures. The newly opened gorilla families offer enthusiasts even more opportunities to witness these majestic animals in their natural habitat.

With the increased number of permits, Uganda is committed to providing an unforgettable and responsible wildlife experience for visitors.
