THE Outpost lodge, a Rare Retreats property situated on a private concession in the northernmost corner of the Kruger National Park, has introduced a first-to-market safari experience that utilises specialised sound equipment to fully immerse guests in the auditory environment of the African bush. During game drives, guests are given headphones connected to a microphone that can pick up audio from up to 5km away. This allows guests to listen in to sounds not readily audible to the human ear, such as the rumbles of elephant communication, the tiny chirps of insects and the various calls of animals in the distance.
“The Sound Safari is a world first extension of the guest experience at The Outpost, complementing our existing approach which seeks to highlight the diversity of the area while drawing attention to all the little things that make the Makuleke concession so special,” said Rare Earth Retreats CEO, Lauren Davies. The community-owned concession is home to 80% of all the biodiversity that exists within the Kruger National Park. The Outpost features 12 luxurious, free-standing suites set on a ridge overlooking the wilderness between the Luvuvhu and Limpopo Rivers.
