Malawi’s Visa waiver scheme introduced in 2024 has now been revoked.
As from 2 January 2026 most nationalities around the world now require visas to enter Malawi.
The new regulations are based on reciprocity – visas are now required for any country that demands visas of Malawians. The official Gazette confirming this change in regulations can be viewed and downloaded by clicking here

Malawi now has an e-visa system for online applications and prefers all travellers to obtain their visas in advance. To apply for a Malawi e-visa visit https://www.evisa.gov.
However, visas can also still be obtained for the majority nationalities on arrival at Malawi points of entry. These include travellers from North America and all European countries except Serbia and Turkey.

Visas can no longer be obtained at Malawi’s Diplomatic Missions, but those missions can offer assistance to travellers who have encountered any problems or delays with the e-visa system.
