At the recent AGM of the Sabi Sand, a new Guest Conservation Contribution (GCC) was introduced in order to help contribute to the enormous costs of countering the current rhino poaching epidemic.
The conservation levy has been set at R100 per person per night for guests visiting lodges with Rack rates at the higher end of the scale. As Umkumbe Safari Lodge is one of the more affordable options in the Sabi Sand, the conservation levy for guests visiting Umkumbe will be R50 per person per night.
The official start of the GCC is 1 January 2016. Therefore all new bookings made from the 1 January 2016 onwards will be subject to the new GCC. Current confirmed/provisional bookings in the system are not affected. The GCC will be added as an extra on the invoice. Please note that the Shaw’s Gate fees have also been adjusted for 2016 and as from the 1 January 2016 the below levies are payable on entering Shaw’s Gate:
Shaw’s Gate levy: R110 per person (payable direct in cash or credit card. Visa or MasterCard). Shaw’s Gate vehicle levy: R250 per vehicle if self driving (payable direct in cash or credit card. Visa or MasterCard)
