Following the appropriation of the Angama Mara Airfield late last year by the Kenyan Government, the Kenya Airports Authority has announced the temporary closure of the airfield with immediate effect. This will allow for planned upgrades to take place, including an improved and slightly lengthened tarmac runway and a chain-link fence which will mean a safer flying experience for all. The airfield is expected to reopen in March 2022.
During this closure, all flights for Angama Mara guests will arrive and depart from Kichwa Airstrip, as many currently do, affording our guests extra game viewing on the 30 minute drive through the Mara Triangle on their way to the lodge. Flights for Angama Safari Camp guests will continue to use the Kichwa or Serena airstrips, depending on the location of the camp.
