Reaching an in-flight connectivity milestone, Qatar Airways has completed its first commercial flight with Starlink’s high-speed internet service in a Boeing 777. The flight from Doha to London earlier this month introduced free, ultra-high-speed, low-latency internet from gate to gate for all passengers.
The airline plans to install Starlink across its entire Boeing 777 fleet by the end of 2025, making it the first airline in the MENA region to offer this technology. Initially, Starlink will be installed in 12 Boeing 777-300s by the end of 2024. The service is also expected to be available in the Airbus A350 fleet by summer 2025.
Using a low Earth orbit satellite constellation, Starlink provides a consistent, high-speed internet experience even over remote areas and oceanic routes. This system allows passengers to stream, work and stay connected throughout their journeys.
Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group CEO, noted: “This launch reflects our commitment to enhancing the in-flight experience with reliable connectivity that enables passengers to stay connected to what matters most – even at 35 000 feet.”
With this development, Qatar Airways advances its objective to provide consistent in-flight connectivity across its routes, supporting personal and work-related needs during travel.
