A collaboration between Giraffe Conservation Foundation, African Parks and Department of National Parks and Wildlife is helping Malawi to repopulate some of its protected areas with Giraffe. Few months ago, the longest wild Giraffe translocation ever was undertaken by road. 10 South African Giraffe made their historic trip to Malawi where they joined the 13 giraffe already introduced as first population in 2018 to Majete Game Reserve after an absence of over 50years. The strong partnerships have acted as a basis for successful conservation action and efforts done at the park.

On their 4.5 days travel to Malawi, these Giraffe travelled 2600Km through some of the most remote stretches of road in Africa. The success of the operation is a testimony to what can be accomplished in conservation partnerships.
Majete Game Reserve is Malawi’s major Big five Reserve situated in the south of Malawi, just one-hour drive from Blantyre. It has been managed by the conservation non-profit African Parks in partnership with Malawi’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) since 2003, whose collaborative efforts have been hailed as a national success story for the restoration of its wildlife and the benefits the park provides to local communities.
