Motorists are breathing a sigh of relief following the reopening of the Hemel-en-Aarde road (R320) in the Western Cape yesterday (November 14).

A stop-and-go system is in now place at the Hemel-en-Aarde Estate and Camphill farm.

There is currently no restriction on vehicle size as the new road section has been done to facilitate the tourism and agricultural industry and normal day use. The road is a key route to the area’s many wine farms and accommodation establishments.

“The reopening of the road is thanks to the amazing work done by the contractors and the Provincial Department of Infrastructure,” said Overstrand Mayor, Annelie Rabie.

The route had been closed to traffic since September 25 when sections of the road were washed away and severely damaged as result of major floods.
