Last month, Chem Chem enjoyed several visits from elephants as they journeyed across the Kwakuchinja Corridor to access the mineral-rich waters of Lake Manyara and the national park beyond.

This is a big deal for the Chem Chem family because, when founders Fabia Bausch and Nicholas Negre first arrived in the area in 2008, the corridor — a migratory path that links the ecosystems of Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks — was on the brink of extinction.

They knew they had the power to make a difference by working to re-establish this crucial migratory corridor. And, through over a decade of hard work from the Chem Chem Association team and partners, the land has slowly and steadily restored itself.

The elephants’ triumphant return to the shores of Lake Manyara in 2021 (for the first time in 40 years) was a testament to the fact that, with enough passion and hard work, even broken pathways can be fixed.

2 years later, the elephants continue to visit Chem Chem — a constant reminder of the tangible impact that determination can have on making the impossible, possible.
