According to a report by the Tanzanian newspaper, The Citizen, Zanzibar’s intention of establishing a seven-star hotel was revealed by Sharif Ali Sharif, the executive director of Zanzibar Investment Authority (ZIPA). He made the announcement at the ceremony of a different resort in North Unguja on Saturday, January 6th.

“We have many exciting developments on the horizon, but one stands out in particular: the arrival of East Africa’s first-ever seven-star hotel on Pemba Island. Let’s commend President Hussein Mwinyi for his visionary leadership in making this happen,” the executive director stated.

During the ceremony, Sharif Ali Sharif also announced the development of a 2500-capacity convention center in the Fumba Free Economic Zone and the construction of a few stadiums with popular athletes coming on board as stakeholders.

According to data from ZIPA, the organization in the past 3 years has been responsible for the creation of 17,000 jobs, under an investment blanket covering 296 projects worth $4.5 billion. 112 of these projects are focused on the country’s tourism sector.

The investor responsible for the Montuli, Hussein Muzamir, noted that he is very confident in Zanzibar’s tourism potential. He stated; “The attractive policies and enabling environment on the island attracted us to invest $ million in this project, which will create 200 jobs upon completion.”
