With a view to integrating the region further and fostering even development among member states, Heads of States of the East African Community (EAC) have agreed to launch a new internal e-passport for the region.
East African will begin using new EAC electronic passports from January next year, after Heads of State from the member countries have launched the international travel document at the 17th ordinary summit for the East African Community Heads of State, held in Arusha, Tanzania. Each member nation will be granted time until December 2018 to phase out its national passports.
This latest development demonstrates further progress for the on-going integration agenda. The EAC is made up of six member countrie -. Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and South Sudan, the last having officially joined the bloc on Monday.
