It is with a heavy heart we report that tour guide Rusten of Blue Crane Safaris, a Namibian based tour company, passed away this past weekend. He had recently led a group of US and Canadian journalists on a 10-day press tour tour of Northern Namibia’s four rivers region. The group had nothing but praise for his guiding skills and knowledge and warmth. His personality was reported to be a highlight of the trip. One participant said “After years in the travel industry, having had dozens of fascinating guides, none I had wanted to maintain a lifelong lasting relationship with quite like Rusten.” Canadian journalist Chris Ryall, who embarked on the four rivers expedition, agreed. “He was not only our guide and driver and relaying facts about the culture, landscapes and wildlife but a new friend in what I hoped would be a lifelong connection and friendship.” A kind soul with a cheeky sense of humor and an obvious love of his country, Rusten had a cunning ability to make every one he came in contact with feel welcome. Condolences to all Rusten’s family, friends, the team at Blue Crane Safaris and all he had come in contact with. May he Rest in Peace.
