Mount Mulanje is a dramatic towering slab of a mountain that lies to the east of Blantyre, and Cycle Malawi can take you there. Combining hiking with cycling can offer you more chances to discover remote parts of Malawi that you simply cannot cycle up! There are around six potential routes to follow up Mount Mulanje, with clearly marked paths, well maintained huts and plenty of rest stops on the way. Once you’ve conquered the peaks of Mulanje, head out on the Satemwa Bikes & Tea Tour to discover the lush tea plantations, and beautiful scenery as you cycle down the winding lanes of the estate. To finish off, you can head to Huntingdon House for lunch, and even visit the factory to taste a sample of the many teas produced at Satemwa.

Mountain biking in Nyika National Park is an experience not to be missed. With views in every direction and the park teeming with plants and animals, the average mountain bike enthusiast would be in seventh heaven traversing this terrain. Novices may choose a 2-hour 14.2 km loop that promises a view of wildlife, and also of the magnificent raptors that nest in Nyika. The Plantation loop will take riders past a dam and through forest, granting access to views from the eastern side of the plateau.

Experienced riders wanting more of a challenge will find Chelinda Loop a grueling 5-hour 36.6km  trail that will test any rider lacking in fitness. Whichever place you choose to start your ride, you will be ascending roughly 850 metres, so this challenging Loop is definitely not for the fainthearted.

Cycling the plains of Nyika National Park will offer picture-perfect views of wilderness and an experience like nowhere else in Africa.
