Madagascar government has just announced the opening of its borders to international travelers after 20 months of closure. It will be done in 2 steps:
- For the Indian Ocean islands, flights from Mauritius and Reunion will resume on October 23rd .
- For the rest of the world mainly European countries, the border will open by November 6th and flights from Paris will resume with Air France and Air Madagascar. List of banned countries with high rate Covid 19 contamination will be communicated by the government later.
- Charter flights from Italy to Nosy are also resuming on November 6th.
- For the regional area: flights from Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa are still unknown.
- No private charter flights are allowed without special permission from the President or Prime Minister. Ivato and Nosy Be are the only airports open to foreign airlines and the only access to Madagascar for international travelers.
- Vaccination against Covid 19 is not required. All passengers must do a PCR test upon arrival ( 25 euro) and quarantine for 24 to 48 hours in a hotel chosen by the government, in waiting for their PCR result. The PCR cost will be added to the international ticket.
- Airlines companies might require negative PCR test before boarding.
